Is Russell Brand being Deep-Stated?
Recent allegations of sexual assault from 20 years ago may be real. But are they rather contrived to take down a threat to the narrative?
My Spidey Sense tells me there's something wrong here and not with Russell Brand. I may be wrong about that. Something doesn’t see right to me, though. I have grown to believe Russell Brand is a man who reformed himself from a destructive lifestyle. His explanation below seems sincere and thoughtful. But I don't know him, and I am not all-knowing.
One other way to consider this: Russell Brand had by his own admission a very destructive lifestyle for a long time in his career. He may sincerely believe this is an attack on him yet having done things which are harmful in his life, we might find out they were actually criminal. That’s a very real possibility which he may not yet be willing to admit.
I don't want to act the fool if there is truth to the allegations. But isn't that the issue here. People in positions of power and influence can throw these accusations out there and make everyone stand still. That’s a punishment powerful people place often upon their innocent opponents at culture and politics. That's the game. It was perfected in the #RussiaHoax. It was done in the Kavanaugh #SCOTUS hearings. There is a Govt/Media/Tech cabal literally out to destroy any narrative that promotes freedom and civil rights. We saw this in the #TwitterFiles. And more has been confirmed in the #FacebookFiles and the revelations that have come out in the #MissouriVBiden case. And the Trump indictments reveal a pattern of those in power using the levers of government to take out a political opponent. Anything is possible anymore (sadly).
Russell Brand video explanation of the charges being made against him
Surely when Megyn Kelly says to treat those who are making these accusations with respect, I agree with her. We live in a society that has strayed far from cultural restraints of morality and decency. We applaud bad behavior. The substance of television, movie, and cable TV programming is increasingly strange, violent, heavily sexual in content, and promoting anything but decent behavior. We expect celebrities to act immorally in many ways. All of this may be allowed in a free society. But it should be an axiom we all take to heart that you can choose what you want to do, but you cannot escape the consequences of your bad choices. We cannot expect good results when we promote and applaud the bad. And those in the limelight like Russell Brand who was applauded for his unrestrained lifestyle cannot easily escape consequences for that either.
Let me be clear. I very much like today’s Russell Brand. He speaks honestly about what’s going on in our world. He shows deep and sincere respect for those around him. He listens intently and thoughtfully to those with whom he disagrees even seeking out their opinions. And he is making sincere efforts to applaud what is good and expose what is bad. He’s far from a perfect man. But he is a man seeking to perfect himself. Whatever the outcome of the allegations against him, I pray (I mean sincerely pray) that he continues on that path. And as a believer in the wonderful Gospel of Jesus Christ, it is my prayer that he may come to embrace that faith as well. We may all need to condemn criminal behavior should we find he is guilty of it. We must also encourage what has begun in his reformation to continue to a proper and good conclusion as well.
Brand may be bad. Government is far worse
I'm presently leaning on the side of a coordinated attack against Russell Brand as a potential threat to narratives like #COVID and other recent, similar power grabs. We may find evil in Brand. But will we also expose the same evil in government actors that are more directly causing harm to our lives? Brand’s sins are local to him. The sins of corrupt government officials are destructive to us all.
Notices like this make me suspect the UK Government seeks to use its power to cancel Russell Brand for political not criminal reasons
Here’s an example of government evil in action. The UK House of Commons Culture, Media and Sport Committee sent a threatening letter to social media companies including Rumble asking them if they “[intend] to join YouTube in suspending Mr. Brand’s ability to earn money on [their] platform.” This letter amounts to a veiled threat of government action against companies that monetize Brand. This is tantamount to a government effort to preempt economic activity. And even if Brand is guilty of crimes, it is none of government’s business if a company allows him to monetize or not. Government has no right to shut down a person’s ability to make their income except as the inconvenience of incarceration or other unrelated consequences of guilt may cause.
We will see what happens. This video is a measured response by Russell Brand. He doesn't seem defensive and running away from responsibility for his life. That is compelling even though not conclusive.
