Where Art, Cartoons, and Politics Meet: The Gary Varvel Interview

Gary Varvel is an award winning editorial cartoonist who helped set the stage for today's online political humor.

Gary Varvel is a Christian, conservative national award-winning, syndicated political cartoonist for Creators Syndicate. He's one of the premier cartoonists in an art form that once dominated the editorial pages of local and national newspapers. Gary is also a speaker and filmmaker. Cartoonists like he and Michael Ramirez set the stage for satire websites like The Babylon Bee and The Onion.

Gary has a Midwestern touch in his art and politics as a cartoonist. But his influence on political thought has gained a following nationwide. And his ideas and humor have moved political thought across the country for decades.

Gary is the former editorial cartoonist for The Indianapolis Star. Varvel's work is nationally syndicated in over 125 newspapers through Creators Syndicate. His cartoons have appeared on CNN, Fox News and in Newsweek, Time, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New York Post, Newsday, USA Today, Washington Times, National Review, and Sports Illustrated. Varvel has been married to his wife, Carol since 1980 and they have 3 children and 8 grandchildren.

Varvel is also a Board Member of House of Grace Films and Co-writer, actor, and Producer of the films: The Board (2009) and The War Within (2014) which won 7 film festival awards.
